Spordipealinn
The title of European Capital of Sport recognizes Tallinn's excellence in sports management. The city earned this distinction, in part, due to its accessible and well-developed sports infrastructure, along with a vibrant sports community.
Tallinn has some of the best sports facilities in Estonia, which are continuously improving. As the European Capital of Sport, the city already has 556 sports venues and over 1,000 exercise locations. The availability of facilities close to home is one reason why Tallinn residents have a higher level of physical activity than the national average.
As the upcoming European Capital of Sport, Tallinn will lead the way in promoting physical activity across Europe. Our aim is to provide even more opportunities for an active lifestyle and make physical activity a natural part of every resident's life.
To achieve this goal, we will host a variety of events throughout the year, offering exciting experiences for athletes and spectators alike. Several new events not held in Tallinn before will also help spread interest in sports.
See the programmeAs the upcoming European Capital of Sport, Tallinn will gain international recognition and join a network of over 3000 cities worldwide. Estonian sports event organisers now have even more opportunities to gain international exposure and promote sports tourism. The title of European Capital of Sport also increases Estonia’s chances of securing the rights to host major sporting events.
Tallinn will be the 25th European Capital of Sport. The European Capitals and Cities of Sports Federation (ACES Europe), recognised by the European Commission, awarded the first sports capital title to Madrid in 2001.
