The ceremonial opening of the Old City Harbour tram line will take place on Friday, 29 November, at 12 noon on Laikmaa Street, between the Viru Centre and the Tallink Hotel.
At the opening event, the world’s most outstanding slackliner, Jaan Roose, will cross Laikmaa Street between earth and sky, and the Tallinn Police Orchestra will perform. Following the welcome speeches and ribbon-cutting ceremony, a trial ride on the new tram line to the Old Harbour will commence at 12:50. The arrival of the tram will be greeted by the Port of Tallinn team and their mascot, Captain Ülo the Seal.
Starting from 1 December 2024, tram line no. 2 will be redirected to a new route, initially operating on the route Kopli-Vanasadam-Suur-Paala. Once the construction of the Rail Baltica Ülemiste terminal progresses to a stage that permits trams to pass through the future terminal area, the tram will begin operating to the airport at the earliest opportunity.
Construction of the Old City Harbour tram line
The Vanasadama tram line construction works, including VAT and owner’s supervision, cost about €46 million, with €36.5 million from the The Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).
Updated schedules for line No. 2 will be published on 25. november on transport.tallinn.ee and displayed at tram stops. |
