From November 20 to 26, the fourth annual large waste disposal campaign of the year will take place. Residents of Tallinn can dispose of their large waste items free of charge at local waste treatment plants.

Starting from November 1, Tallinn's waste treatment plants will switch to a winter schedule. All four waste treatment plants - in Pääsküla, Rahumäe, Paljassaare, and Pärnamäe - will continue to be open seven days a week, but their opening hours will be shorter during the autumn-winter period.

This week, from 8-14 May, people residing in Tallinn according to the population register can drop off bulky waste, such as broken and unusable furniture, bicycles and baby prams, at the city's waste transfer stations for free.

On 22 May, Rahumäe waste transfer station will be closed for one month due to necessary construction works; customers will be directed to other waste transfer stations during this time.

Packaging waste accounts for around 60% of household waste and separate collection of packaging does not create more waste but significantly reduces the volume of mixed municipal waste. Packages can be brought to public packaging waste collection containers or to waste stations.

Tallinn's district governments have set up a total of 79 collection points across the city where old Christmas trees can be given away for free. Collected Christmas trees are not dumped in landfills, but are reused for district heating in the city's houses or to generate electricity.

To promote separate collection of bio-waste, the City of Tallinn will provide residents of detached houses, semi-detached houses, terraced houses and two-apartment houses with home composters and collection containers on preferential terms. Applications will be accepted from 15 September until composters and bins are available.

Tallinn aims to create a nine-kilometre-long park area on a limestone cliff bordering Lasnamäe, Kesklinn and Pirita. The results of the call for ideas for the park will be presented on Thursday 31 March at 17–19 in the Lauluväljaku Klaassaal. On the 2nd of November team members of the international project “GoGreenRoutes” from Tallinn Strategic Management Office met with the educational institutions near the Vormsi park to learn about their expectations and preferences regarding development of this green area.
