Tallinn – European Capital of Sport 2025: combat sports
The sports day taking place at Sõle Sports Centre on 22 February will focus on combat sports.
During the sports day, you will have the opportunity to learn various combat sports techniques from experienced instructors.
Children, teenagers, adults and seniors are all welcome to take part in the introductory training sessions for combat sports. There will also be women’s self-defence classes in wrestling and taekwondo.
You will need to bring sports clothing and a change of footwear. Other equipment is available on site.
You must first pre-register for the training sessions in the Tallinn e-shop in order to participate.
Fencing
Fencing is perfect for people of any age and fitness level. Participants in the training session will learn about the rules of the sport. After that, correct fencing posture will be taught and, following some introductory exercises, you will be able to take part in your first duel.
Fencing training will take place in the Sõle Sports Centre’s fencing hall.
Timetable:
The goal of karate training is to teach participants the fundamentals of the sport. The training sessions aimed at children and teens will begin with warm-ups and stretching exercises, after which the fundamentals of karate will be taught: striking, blocking and stances. The exercises have been adjusted to fit the physical development of the age group.
Adults will be able to learn more advanced karate techniques, focusing on accuracy and control.
Karate training will take place in the Sõle Sports Centre’s ball game hall.
Timetable:
In the judo training sessions, the sport’s primary values will be observed: bravery, respect, humility, sincerity, friendship, honour and self-control.
The training aimed at kids will focus on developing coordination. Participants will develop better control over their body and increase their motivation for improving skills.
Training aimed at teens and adults will focus on introducing different throws and falling techniques.
Judo training will take place in the Sõle Sports Centre’s judo hall.
Timetable:
Wrestling training focuses on the fundamentals of the sport, but with an additional focus on the theoretical side of the sport that Estonia has historically had much success in.
There will be a separate self-defence lesson aimed at women, teaching various self-defence techniques such as how to get out of holds and how to fall properly.
Wrestling training will take place in the Sõle Sports Centre’s ball game hall.
Timetable:
Participants will receive instruction in the differences between the two different styles of taekwondo (Olympic and non-Olympic taekwondo) The techniques required for the sport will be acquired through complex exercises and sparring.
There will also be separate women’s self-defence training.
Taekwondo training will take place in the Sõle Sports Centre’s mat hall.

- 10:00-14:00 fencing on a first come, first served basis. Ten people at once per track, with tracks switching every 15 minutes.
